Breakfast of Champions, Part 1

Drawn Kindergarten-2nd grade and 6th-8th grade students went to the 2nd quarter Breakfast of Champions on Wednesday, January 11th. Students were drawn out of the 2nd quarter Hawk Bucks recipients. Students receive Hawk Bucks for exhibiting positive behavior at school. When selected, students are welcome to bring an adult to the breakfast where they have donuts, orange juice, and get the chance to play games! The breakfast of champions is sponsored by PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports)

Breakfast of Champions

Last week at our assembly, students who earned Hawk Bucks (positive reward tickets) during the first quarter were eligible to be put in a drawing to attend the Breakfast of Champions. Each Hawk Buck earned was put into the drawing. This week elementary students who were selected attended the Breakfast of Champions on Wednesday. Middle level students who were selected attended on Thursday along with our High School Student of the Month nominees. Students invited an adult guest to enjoy donuts and juice as well as play games. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us!

PBIS Quarterly Assembly

Kindergarten through 12th grade students celebrated a successful first quarter of the 2021-2022 school year with this year’s first quarterly assembly. One highlight of the assembly was a team building game. Each team had to organize themselves to create a given number. Mr. Hagge then congratulated the student body on their hard work both academically, athletically, and in extra curricular activities as well. We have very talented students in all areas!

Students who made the Honor Roll for the first quarter were announced. The assembly wrapped up with the PBIS team’s drawing for the Breakfast of Champions and announcement of the Student of the Month. Way to go Hawks on a successful beginning of the school year!

September Student of the Month

“Braydon has been an excellent leader for our FFA Chapter over the entire summer and in particular with the “Kelly Fundraiser”. He has also taken a great leadership role as we have begun the school year in encouraging new and younger members to become active in the FFA. He demonstrated that leadership in the development of our FFA float for “Friendly Festival” and the petting zoo. He was also instrumental in organizing and running the concession stand for the first Football and Volleyball games. He is a very caring and encouraging individual and one of the best FFA officers I have had in my 30 years as an Ag Teacher. He is very passionate about FFA and works tirelessly to encourage others to be involved. Braydon is very deserving of this honor.”

“Braydon has demonstrated hard work, personal accountability, teamwork, and dedication to not just the FFA but to the school in general. He is always volunteering himself to help out when needed and is a valued asset to the school.”

“Braydon has grown into such a great student and leader. It’s been fun to watch him mature and take on bigger and bigger challenges, while also keeping up with his classwork. Braydon brings a fun bit of humor into my class whether he’s debating about the value of adding juice to the lunch program(he really misses it!), providing instrumental moments (ask him – he has lots of tunes in his head), and working to persuade his junior class that they should be going by the name of Pancake Club. Braydon is a great young man who fully deserves the honor of Student of the Month!”

“Braydon Binger is a great young man. He is not much of a talker (unless you ask his 4th grade teacher) but when he says something he has quick wit and always makes me laugh. He works hard on community projects and is very good to his friends and family. Braydon is an exceptional young man!”

Pink Out Order Form

The PBIS team is doing a “PINK OUT” fundraiser. Our pink out games will be October 14th at the VB and FB games vs. Sioux County.

*Notice pink shirts are very hard to come by right now so we have opted for black with pink writing in hopes that everyone will get the same thing and youth will be able to order.

Staff In-Service

The Hay Springs staff ended their three-day in-service last week with a little bit of relaxation and rejuvenating prior to greeting parents and students at the open house. Dahn and Mandy Hagge prepared delicious fruit and vegetable trays, meat and cheese trays, cupcakes and some refreshing punch. The staff was engaged in three days of classroom preparation, curriculum and student management planning, PBIS in-service and data analysis as we continue with our school improvement process. Staff were also involved in numerous committee meetings. Thanks to the Hagge’s for their efforts!

January 2021 Student of the Month

Sam is an extraordinary young man. I am so thrilled to see him receive student of the month. He is always kind to everyone that is around him. He has an infectious smile and a wonderful heart! I loved having him in my classroom and enjoy visiting with him whenever I see him around the school or community.

Sam is one of those rare students who realizes how fortunate we are to be in Hay Springs, NE! He has a positive outlook and generally sees the best in people. He is grateful and appreciative of any extra time teachers spend working with him. Sam has an outstanding work ethic and when he says he will do something, it gets done, oftentimes exceeding expectations. Sam is quick with a witty comment and a laugh that is contagious. An honor well deserved!

Sam has been a student that I can count on to come to class prepared, having completed work before arriving at class. He is constantly looking for new challenges and once he achieves those challenges he’s looking for something more. He is a student who goes above the expectation and encourages others to do more.

Sam’s talents never cease to amaze me. He’s a reader, an excellent writer, he’s kind to everyone, he helps try to steer his class in a better direction when the conversation deteriorates, he’s a gamer, and he’s excellent at reciting poetry and speeches. He’s just all-around fantastic!

Sam is a true leader in the school. He does this by how he carries himself. He treats everybody with respect and is friendly to everyone. His academic skills are top-notch and his talents in his extracurricular activities are amazing. Sam is well-deserving of this honor and will continue to help make our school great!

November 2020 Student of the Month

Bailey Scherbarth is a fun student to have in class! She almost always has a positive attitude and something great to contribute to our class discussions. She is kind, respectful, and helpful when dealing with her fellow peers. I have truly enjoyed getting to know her and love her honesty (especially about her college classes). Congrats Bailey! This is well deserved.

Bailey is a student who you can rely upon to get things done. She is always willing to do the jobs no one else wants to take care of and will organize people to get things done. Bailey is someone who can be relied on in tough situations.

Bailey is one of the more self-motivated students I have ever had. I have had many students who I would label as having a strong work ethic but Bailey goes beyond this description. She is reliable, a good classmate, funny and very strong-willed. We might be “rivals” at times in class, but I have the utmost respect for her. This recognition is well-deserved. I know she is going to have a big impact on many people as she moves forward in her life.

September 2020 Student of the Month

Kaleb Miller is an amazing young man. He has overcome many obstacles to be the successful person that he is. He is hardworking and diligent. He is also willing to sacrifice his personal time to help his brother be more successful. I feel that he deserves this recognition for being the great young man that he is!

Kaleb is a very considerate young man whom I have witnessed helping others simply because they need a hand. He does the right thing even when others are not looking.

Kaleb is a nice young man that is always willing to help out with any task that is needed.

Kaleb is a young man who is excited to help anybody with any issues they may have. I know that he’s helped other students with their vehicles, he’s always willing to help out with anything in the classroom, and he’s especially happy when he can help someone with a building or repairing project. One of my tall tables had an issue when we opened the box, and I thought I was going to have to send it back because the screws were stripped. Kaleb looked at it, told me he could move the screws to a different spot, and it would go together like it was supposed to. Not only did he make it usable, he also spray painted the area where some paint had come off so that it still looked like the brand new table that it was. He’s also wonderful to have in class because he’s always positive and probably the most polite student I know. This award is highly deserved!

In my seven years in Hay Springs I have worked with Kaleb the most. For seven years I have had him as a student for about six of those years. It is not too often you get to spend that much time with one student. I am glad that I got to have those six years as Kaleb’s teacher. In my career I cannot remember having such a nice and honorable student. He has battled many things in the years I have known him. How he stays so positive is beyond me. He strives to be better. His work ethic has helped propel him further than what some think he is capable of. I know he will use this to become a successful adult. Kaleb deserves this accolade. I am very proud of him!
