Bayard CD Invite Updates

Bayard CD Invite Track and Field Meet Updates for Saturday April 5, 2025

Due to concerns about weather, the following changes have been made:

Field events start time: 10 am
Running events start time: 12 pm

1) Jumps – 3 finals only jumps for each jumper this day.
2) Throws – 3 throws for both discus and shotput. We will throw 2 then 1. If the first 2 are close we will measure them both. If one is clearly further than the other we will plan to measure 1 out of the first 2. Then we will measure the 3 throw. Throwers will get 2 marks at least that day unless they scratch any of those other throws.
3) Pole Vault will be ran as 5 alive I was told that day. Hope to be able to keep things moving so kids can get warmed up and try to stay warm if possible. (We will set an opening height to ensure kids have the opportunity, but to keep things moving.)
4) High Jump will run as normal on that day. (We will set an opening height to ensure kids have the opportunity, but to keep things moving.)
5) Running events will occur as follows for the finals only meet.

JH Quiz Bowl

On Friday, March 28, the Hay Springs Junior High Quiz Bowl team traveled to Chadron to compete in the Chadron Middle School Invitational. A team primarily composed of 7th graders competed in the 8th-grade division and performed admirably.

The Hawks won two out of three matches, securing a 6th-place finish out of 12 teams. Notably, they scored the most points among schools with similar enrollments. One of the highlights of the meet was their victory over host Chadron, which went on to place 2nd overall.

The Hawks represented themselves well and should be proud of their performance!

Class D All State Band

Congratulations to the Hay Springs Class D All State Band participants. Students rehearsed all day Saturday, March 29th at University of Nebraska at Kearney and then put on a concert at 5pm. Participating students were: Bailey Hankins, Emma Albrecht, Adeline Fredeickson, Reese Varvel, Alaina Raymer, Jacob Dorshorst, Parker Wellnitz, Easton Mintken, and Mason Albrecht.

Pumpkin Jack

On Halloween, kindergarten and first grade carved a pumpkin and named him “Pumpkin Jack.” We have been watching him gradually decompose over the winter. We were so excited to see the life cycle continue when it re-sprouted! Today first grade was able to transplant their newly sprouted pumpkin seedlings into a bigger container. After digging through what was left of Pumpkin Jack we found only some seeds and the stem left!
