Calling All Cooks!! School/Community Cookbook

Calling all cooks! The Hay Springs Journalism Class is collecting recipes for the 2016 School/Community Cook Book. We hope to have it available for purchase December 2016 at the annual Santa Soup Cook Off. We know there are a number of talented cooks in and around our area. Please submit your recipes to robin.shimek@hshawks.com or mail to 407 North Baker or hand deliver it to the school.  This cookbook will make a great keepsake for all!

Giving Back to the Community, April 13th

In appreciation for the support of our community, the students at HSH would like to “give back” to Hay Springs. We are seeking businesses, groups, organizations, and even the elderly who are in need of help. Teacher supervised groups of students are willing to wash windows, stock shelves, clean shops, rake lawns or scoop snow if necessary. We are willing to assist in any way needed.

Our “Give Back to the Community Day” is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 13, 2016. In the event of inclement weather, April 27, 2016, will be the alternate date.  If you would like to be added to our list, please call the high school office at 638-4434.

Nebraska’s Birthday

Nebraska became a state on March 1st, 1867.  Every year on this day we celebrate Nebraska’s birthday.  This year the students at Hay Springs dressed up in their Husker or red gear to celebrate!  The kindergarten, first and second grades got together and presented different facts about Nebraska that they had learned.  The Kindergarten class presented the word Nebraska.  For each letter than had an important fact about the flag or an important place in Nebraska that they presented.  The first graders made posters about important people from Nebraska and fun facts.  The second graders had a slideshow presentation about the state insect, tree and flower!
