The toll-free, always-available phone number officers are encouraging the public to call is 1-866-MUST-B-21. Anyone calling can remain anonymous. The number can be used to report underage youth that are attempting to purchase alcohol, are consuming alcohol or are in possession of alcohol. But it doesn’t stop there. The number can also be used to report adults providing alcohol to minors or allowing them to drink on their property, or retailers selling alcohol to kids. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety established the tipline and coordinates its use.

Nebraska law requires any motorboat operator (including personal watercraft) born after December 31, 1985, complete a Boating Safety Course and be in possession of a course certificate when operating the boat.  You must be at least 14 years of age to operate a motorboat (including personal watercraft) in Nebraska.  Classes are offered throughout the state in two options: A – Classroom Instruction or B – Home Study. FCA is still selling Kris Badje Breast Cancer Awareness – Hawk Shirts.  Shirt design: front- Hawk logo; back “Badje of Faith, Hope, Support”.  Due to the “surprise” of this event, sales of these uniquely designed shirts were limited.  These shirts have been specifically designed to support Kris, and represent the Hawks at any future event.

Shirts are available through: Shiela Letcher, Derek Ginn or Ramie Varvel. Orders need to be placed by Feb. 16th.  Available sizes ($20 each) include Youth : small, medium and large; Adult: small, medium, large, x-large, 2x-large.

There will be NO SCHOOL February 18, 2013! Teachers will be attending an inservice in Scottsbluff.

Driver’s Education classes will be held at Rushville Middle School, June 17-21st, 8am to noon. You must have a learner’s permit to attend.

With the recent school shooting in Connecticut every school district across the nation is reviewing their school safety and security plans.  While Hay Springs and Hay Springs Public Schools is a very safe community and school, precautions still need to be taken to address safety.

Our Board of Education recently reviewed our school safety measures.  Beginning immediately, all exterior doors will be locked at all times throughout the school day.  The main office door is the only entrance into the building. Use front entrance only: We ask all visitors and parents use the front entrance only.  Please do not knock or seek entrance into other school doors.  Students and staff have been instructed not to allow entrance into the building except through the front office door. We have moved the office secretary’s desk to allow her direct vision of the front door.

Sign ups for all our fall Chadron Community Recreation programs; soccer, flag football, and tackle football, will be next week on Aug. 20,21 and 23 at the PAC on the CSC campus (the building on south main, below C hill) from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm. Cost for soccer and Flag FB will be $25. Cost for tackle football is $60 and with an equipment deposit of $150. The fee for soccer covers the spring games also which we continue in April & May. People can get more information and print off the registration forms from chadronrec.com. You may also mail the registration form in before Sept. 1 to CCR, P.O. Box 4, Chadron, NE, 69337.
