School Continues with Alternative Education

Panhandle schools will be operating in an alternative learning environment for the remainder of the school year.

After consultation with COVID-19 Unified Command, it has been determined that all schools in the Nebraska Panhandle will remain closed to students and operate in an alternative learning environment for the remainder of the 2019/2020 school year. Traditional graduation ceremonies are not going to be possible this May. Schools will be working to determine appropriate alternative methods to honor the Class of 2020 in each community, whether that be a ceremony at a later date or some other locally determined alternative graduation that complies with the guidance of health officials.

We continue to monitor the unfolding COVID-19 epidemic to anticipate its impact on the Panhandle. We are working as a unified command with Region 21, 22, and 23 Emergency Managers, and Scottsbluff County Health Department on this evolving situation. We will continue to communicate important updates to the public and our partners. The CDC is putting out updated guidance daily; for the most up to date information visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. Thanks for your support and cooperation

Note from Principal Hagge

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Third quarter grade reports have been finalized. Middle and High School parents can view grade reports by accessing Infinite Campuses Parent Portal and typing in your username and password. If you do not have an account set up, you can call the school office between 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and talk to Adriene. You can also access your child’s grades through Infinite Campus Student Portal and using your child’s username and password.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18th all work assigned will be mandatory in terms of completion. Grades will be entered by teachers into Infinite Campus just as if students were physically attending school.

Thank you for your continued support during these uncertain times. If you have questions do not hesitate to call.

Mark Hagge, Principal
Hay Springs Public Schools

School Closings

After consultation with COVID-19 Unified Command, it has been determined that all schools in the Nebraska Panhandle will be closed through May 1st, with the possibility of schools being closed for the remainder of the 2019/2020 school year. This decision will be re-evaluated as circumstances change, with parents and families updated accordingly and extended as needed. This is a precautionary measure; there are currently no confirmed cases in the Panhandle; however, local health and school officials are watching the COVID-19 situation in Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota closely. School Superintendents met with Unified Command today and agreed this action would help prevent exposure to our area to flatten the curve and decrease the spread of disease.

Hay Springs Public School will remain consistent with the school calendar in that the last day for Seniors will be on Thursday, May 14th, the last day for students in grades PK-11 will be Thursday, May 21st. More information regarding end of the year activities will be forthcoming as we learn more about the COVID-19 outbreak situation.

A pick up and drop off station for student assignments has been created on the north end of the school in the school garage. The station will be open on Tuesday, March 24th from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please remember to practice social distancing while in the garage and communicate directly with your child’s classroom teacher to determine if new assignments will be available in this location during this time.

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation during this time of uncertainty.
