Community Feedback: Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is coming up on February 2nd. First grade needs your help. We will use our Groundhog Day predictions to create a graph and analyze if our predictions are correct!

What do you predict Punxutawney Phil will do? Will he see his shadow and predict 6 more weeks of winter? Or will he not see his shadow and spring will be on it’s way! Some sources say he has been correct about 39% of the time.

Community Feedback: Seasons

Kindergarten is learning about the seasons.  We predicted yesterday that summer will be our favorite season, but we are wondering about yours.  Let us know so we can include you on our graph.  We will post the results when we are done.  Please tell us your favorite season by commenting on the facebook post linked below!

Student Council Sponsors Food Drive

HSPS got into the spirit of the season this week when students and teachers donated food items to the Good Neighbor of Hay Springs. The group was challenged to bring as many items as possible. Classes were competing against one another for a 2-hour early release for Thursday before break. Teachers were promised to get a one-hour late start for their next staff in-service. Seventh graders took high honors and will enjoy an early out; teachers also made their goal and will be rewarded at the next teacher in-service. The Good Neighbor is always in need of items, especially during this time of year. Mrs. Marx and students rallied together and loaded the goods into the suburban and took a trip to the Good Neighbor where more volunteers waited to start putting holiday baskets together for needy families. What a difference a little time and effort can make in the lives of so many. Happy holidays to all from all of us at HSPS!

Fire Safety Week

For fire safety week, the Hay Springs Volunteer Fire Department made a visit to the Elementary on Thursday, October 12th. Ryan and Terry shared fire safety tips with students, took kids for a ride on the fire truck, and tried on the bunker gear. Remember to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and decide on a space place for your family.  Thank you Ryan and Terry!

A Trip To The Library

On Wednesday, October 4th, the 1st grade class took a trip to the Public Libary downtown! They had a GREAT time and were happy to get out of the classroom for a while after working so hard these last few weeks. Mrs. Rasmussen taught them how to be in alphabetical order just like her books and then she read them two stories. They also got to do leaf rubbings and, of course, read books on their own!

Give Back To The Community Day, 4/12

Looking for Community Members/Businesses needing Help!

In appreciation for the support of our community, the 6th-12th grade students at HSPS would like to “give back” to Hay Springs.  We are seeking businesses, groups, organizations, and even the elderly who are in need of help.  Teacher supervised groups of students are willing to wash windows, stock shelves, clean shops, rake lawns, and paint walls.  We are willing to assist in any way needed.

Our “Give back to the Community Day” is scheduled for April 12th, 2017, from 1:oo pm – 4:00 pm.  In the event of inclement weather, April 26th, will be the alternate date.  If you would like to be added to our list or have any questions, please call the school office at 308-638-4434.

Thanks to our community for all your support!

Please help spread the word!
