Some quick updates for the coming week:
-JH track scheduled for tomorrow in Bayard has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 11th due to weather.
-Lunch menu change. Monday walking tacos and Tuesday orange chicken.
The Chadron Junior High track meet scheduled for tomorrow(Saturday, April 6th) has been canceled due to forecast of bad weather.
Peg Gilbert presented “The Life and Drive of Mari Sandoz” to 4th and 5th graders. They had read “Mari Sandoz A Wild Flower” by Evelyn B Hisel earlier this year. Peg dressed as Mari and talked of the hardships and challenges of the Sandhills, as well as, Mari’s accomplishments as an author. Peg’s presentation was brought to us by Humanities Nebraska. Humanities Nebraska provides major funding for programs. Humanities Nebraska receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment and private donations.
Today is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day! What is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day you may ask? Here is what We Are Teachers says on the subject(they also mention some neat ways to celebrate Paraprofessionals):
Paraprofessionals, or paras, teaching assistants, or instructional assistants, do a little of everything in schools. They support classes, are assigned to specific students in special education, help with substituting and supporting the general running of the school, and help supervise students.
Parapros are—we’ll say it—not paid enough for the work they do each day. Paraprofessional Appreciation Day is a chance to put them in the spotlight and recognize the dedication they bring to students each day.
So, a HUGE thank you to the Paras at Hay Springs Public School: Twila, Mindie, Cara, Carrie, Jake, and MaKena! You guys ROCK!

Juniors and Seniors had the opportunity to visit two South Dakota colleges last week. We visited Western Dakota Technical College in Rapid City (there is no difference between resident and non-resident tuition at WDT). We also visited Black Hills State University in Spearfish. Nebraska residents receive in-state tuition at South Dakota colleges and universities thanks to the SD Advantage program.
Congratulations to Jordyn Anderson who signed to play football at Concordia University.

Several students from HSPS participated in the annual Personal Finance Challenge, where they tackled multiple-choice rapid-fire questions within a 30-minute time frame. Our team, Hawks24, achieved an impressive ranking of number 3 in the Western Nebraska region and number 7 overall. Out of 288 teams in the High School division, including 98 in Lincoln, 91 in Omaha, and 99 in Western Nebraska, our performance stood out.
This achievement has earned our students advancement to the regional competition in Kearney on April 5th.
Members of the team include Jordyn Anderson, Gage Mintken, Hunter McDonald, and Mason Marcy.
