On February 19th, the 9th–11th grade students traveled to Hemingford to listen to John Baylor, radio voice of the University of Nebraska Volleyball and ACT Prep instructor. OnToCollege with John Baylor is a program that prepares students for the ACT. Our students have access to OnToCollege with John Baylor, the link is on the Hawk website.

 

Family Movie Night

Please join us for the first Family Movie Night of the year!  It will be held in the auditorium on Thursday, March 7th, 2019.  The movie will begin at 7:00 PM, so be sure to get here a little early to get a good seat!  We will be showing A Wrinkle In Time, which is rated PG.

Synopsis: Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, have been without their scientist father, Mr. Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg’s classmate Calvin O’Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which, the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.

Family Movie Night…Again!

Synopsis: An animated adventure for all ages, with original music and an all-star cast, Smallfoot turns the Bigfoot legend upside down when a bright young Yeti finds something he though didn’t exist – a human. News of this “smallfoot” throws the simple Yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village, in an all new story about friendship, courage, and the joy of discovery.

New Inductees At HSPS

The Hay Springs Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted new members on Thursday(02/21/2019) afternoon. Seniors, Austin Anderson and Jarret Pieper were welcomed during the ceremony. Jaiden Anderson, Spencer Kadlecek, Bailey Scherbarth, Joce Varvel and RyLee Wolken were the sophomore inductees. Middle and high school students joined the inductees for an informal reception after the ceremony.  Congratulations to the new members!

Trout In The Classroom

The fifth grade class is participating in the Trout in the Classroom (TIC) program. This is a hands-on educational program in which students:

  • raise trout from eggs to fry
  • monitor tank water quality
  • engage in stream habitat study
  • learn to appreciate water resources
  • begin to foster a conservation ethic
  • grow to understand ecosystems

We received our trout eggs on January 17th and have enjoyed watching them grow and change from eggs to alevin and to fry.

FBLA Best In The West

Yesterday the Hay Springs chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) participated in the Best in the West Business Invitational in Chadron. We took four students to this event we had two students place: Jarret Pieper got first place in Economics and Erin Kadlecek got fifth in Accounting 1.  The other two students that participated were Ashley Burrows and Hannah Wohl.  This is a testing event designed to prepare students for the State competition in Omaha in April. We will be attending another event to help prepare us for the state competition the next one is in March in Kearney.  If you would like to donate any funds to help us get the last two events of our season, please feel free to contact Ms. Lein at the school.
