The Hay Springs chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 7 new members on Wednesday. They are James Scherbarth, Gabrielle Twarling, Alexa Tonjes, Abigail Russell, Gage Mintken, Jordyn Anderson, and Lillian Dorshorst. Current members who conducted the ceremony are Mia Skinner, Samantha Toof, and Hally Johnson.

The National Honor Society is made up of 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who exhibit the four pillars of the society; Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Students who have a 3.60 grade point average or above are asked to complete an application, and are then selected by a faculty council based on how well each applicant has demonstrated the four pillars throughout their high school careers.

Congratulations to Brooke Winter, our 3rd quarter(2022-2023) Student of the Month!

“Brooke tries to do her best in all her classes. She displays responsibility by getting extra help with classroom work, completes her work in a timely manner, willing to come in after or before school to get help when needed.  She has tried and excelled in various activities including FFA, FBLA, Speech, Volleyball, and golf. She is not afraid to try new things.”

“Brooke is a very caring, responsible, young lady. She is well behaved and strives for academic excellence. She is involved in extracurricular activities such as; volleyball, One Act, speech, FBLA, & FFA. Brook has qualified for state speech in duet.”

“Brooke Winter is one of the kindest, most compassionate people I know. As someone who is new to Hay Springs, she made me feel welcome from the first day, and I greatly appreciate that. She is a hard worker and I know she will be amazing at whatever she chooses to do!”

“Brooke is willing to contribute to our classes. She is very hardworking and kind hearted. When Brooke is not at school, she is busy helping on their family farm. Brooke is also an animal lover and lector at the church.”

Student Joins Ag Tech Program

Gordon, NE – 21st Century Equipment welcomes Toby Scherbarth as part of the company’s Ag Tech training program in conjunction with John Deere.

Toby will be sponsored by 21st Century Equipment’s Gordon dealership. Toby is a senior at Hay Springs High School and is the son of TJ and Holly Scherbarth. He will attend school at Southeast Community College in Milford, NE.

“We’re proud to have Toby as part of our team,” said Jake Palmer. “We know he will be a great asset to 21st Century Equipment.”

The John Deere Ag Tech program is a unique alliance between John Deere, John Deere dealers and various 2-year colleges across the nation. Students will graduate from the program with an associate of applied science degree while also completing a cooperative work experience at a John Deere dealership.

Students gain knowledge on all aspects of John Deere products, including receiving their certifications in hydraulics, electrical and service advisor diagnostics software and developing a strong understanding of the current technologies that are available on John Deere equipment.

21st Century Equipment’s Ag Tech college program provides reimbursement for up to 100% of college tuition, books, fees, room and board, plus Snap-On tools and a toolbox.
