“Give Back to the Community Day”, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 10, 2019

In appreciation for the support of our community, the students at HSH would like to “give back” to Hay Springs. We are seeking businesses, groups, organizations, and even the elderly who are in need of help. Teacher supervised groups of students are willing to wash windows, stock shelves, clean shops, rake lawns or scoop snow if necessary. We are willing to assist in any way needed.
Our “Give Back to the Community Day” is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 10, 2019. In the event of inclement weather, April 24, 2019 will the alternate date.  If you would like to be added to our list, please call the high school office at 638-4434.
Thanks to our community for all your support!

Reading Dr. Seuss

Hay Springs Elementary 1st graders went to visit the 4th grade class to read books to them to celebrate Dr. Seuss day!  Held annually on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss Day is a holiday that celebrates the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel – otherwise known by the pen name by which he authored children’s books: Dr. Seuss. During the 1990s, the National Education Association advocated for a day to celebrate reading all over the United States. In 1998, it started Read Across America and decided to hold it on the same day as Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

First Graders in Hats

First grade did an Author Study on Dr. Seuss this past week to celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s Birthday (March 2nd). They read many Dr. Seuss books, studied his biography, and shared their favorite Dr. Seuss books with friends. We ended the week with a room full of Cats in Hats!

Internet Hoaxes

Rather than feeding the mass panic by being uninformed, please take the time to do a little research on your own concerning things you read on the internet.  Like it or not, we do live in the era of “fake news”, so get off social media and do some fact checking.  Here are some links to get you started so that you can have an honest and informed conversation with your children about the latest hoax.

6th Grade Model Homes

The Sixth Grade has been learning about Architecture and Construction. They constructed model houses that are 1320 sq. ft and include two or three bedrooms (each with a closet), one or two bathrooms, and no frills. They started by creating a scale drawing on a sheet of graph paper. They added walls and a room to finish the house. The slideshow below includes the five models and their features. Take a look and then VOTE on the one you like best.
