Elementary students attended an assembly today for Red Ribbon Week. Nebraska State Patrol Sergeant Horak spoke with students about the dangers of illegal drugs and what to do if someone offers them an unknown substance. She also told students to watch for strange or abnormal substances, such as pills that may look like candy, but are loose or in a zip lock bag instead of a sealed, candy package. She reminded them not to touch or eat anything that looks strange, but to tell an adult right away.

The Hay Springs Hawks Varsity and JH Football teams traveled to Cody today. The JH team finished an undefeated season with their 47-13 victory over Cody-Kilgore. The varsity team edged away from the Cowboys with a 34-28 win, making them the class D6 District 6 Champions. The Hawks have solidified a spot in the NSAA Football Playoffs! 4th graders had a presentation today by a local author. She explained the writing, revising, editing and publishing process. We learned there is a lot of hard work that goes into making a book and marketing a book, but the rewards are priceless.
Jordyn Anderson, Noah York, Jarhett Anderson, Abby Nelson, Taden Tobiasson, and Brooke Winter traveled to Scottsbluff on October 5th to attend Manufacturing Day at Aulick Industries. They toured the facilities, learned a lot about what goes into manufacturing all of the different trailers and trucks that Aulick produces, and participated in a challenge to see who could assemble a grain gate the fastest (based only on blueprints). Jordyn, Abby, and Noah placed 3rd out of 35 teams!
