The Middle Level & High School Band & Choir, along with the Community Choir, will present a concert at 7:00 in the auditorium.

State Accountability Ratings

Last week, the Nebraska Department of Education lifted the embargo on information on state accountability ratings. Congratulations to everyone in our district who has and is leading and educating our students. We are very pleased to announce that our schools have rated very well! Here are the links to our school’s results:

Hay Springs Elementary is rated – Excellent
Hay Springs Middle School is rated – Great
Hay Springs High School is rated – Excellent
Hay Springs District is rated – Great

We will continue to do the right work with the goal of the best possible education for all students and support our teachers and leaders in their daily work!

CSC Scholastic Contest

On November 9th, twenty-six Hay Springs students traveled to Chadron to compete in the annual CSC Scholastic contest. The contest hasn’t taken place for the past two years because of the pandemic. CSC decided to try holding Scholastic Day in the Fall this year because of the unpredictable weather that usually occurs in the spring (ironically, the campus opened late that day due to snowy road conditions). Hay Springs placed 3rd in Division IV. The following students placed in the top 25% in their tests!

Jordyn Anderson – 6th in Algebra II and 7th in Personal Finance
Colter Meeks – 1st in Animal Science (receives a $500 tuition waiver to CSC and a sweatshirt!)
Lillian Dorshorst – 3rd in Business Math (medal)
Hally Johnson – 5th in Literary Analysis
Sam Toof – 6th in Literary Analysis
Mia Skinner – 7th in Physics
Dylan Raymer – 8th in Plane Geometry
Abigail Nelson – 5th in Vet Science

Way to go Hawks!

STEM Fair

Please plan to attend the STEM Fair this Sunday, November 20th in the Lister Sage building from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  In addition to the free-will-donation pulled pork meal, there will be numerous activities such as a Lego station, a coloring contest, a building competition, and many fun science experiments!  Bring the whole family and enjoy an evening of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math!

Mobile Apps

A number of you may already be using these apps, but for those who aren’t, they are a very handy way to access information from your mobile device.  By using the Activity Scheduler app, you can easily keep track of upcoming events on the school activities calendar.  And the Infinite Campus apps allow both parents and students to have real-time access to announcements, assignments, attendance, grades, schedules and much more.  Finally the Remind app allows you to stay connected with the school community.  Please consider downloading and using these apps as yet another way to receive communications from the school!  The instructions and links to these apps will always be available under the “Apps” tab on the school website.

Activity Scheduler App
This app will allow you to view the events on school activities calendar on your mobile device.  First download the appropriate app for your device:

After the app is installed and you open it the first time, you will be asked to choose the correct state.  Use the search box and start typing “Nebraska”.  When it shows up, select it and then you will be asked to choose the correct school.  Again use the search box and start typing “Hay Springs”.  The school “Hay Springs Public School Activities” should show up.  Select it and you are done with setup!  To see upcoming events, select the “Calendar” icon.

Infinite Campus Parent App
Campus Parent puts your student’s school information at your fingertips. Real-time access to announcements, assignments, attendance, grades, schedules and much more.  First download the appropriate app for your device:

After installing and opening the app, you will be asked to type the first three characters of the District Name.  Just type “Hay” and then pick “Nebraska” from the drop down list under the “State” heading.  Click the “Search District” button and choose “Hay Springs Public Schools”.  Then log in using your username and password(available from your student).  After the app verifies the login credentials, you should be set!

After installing and opening the app, you will be asked to enter your phone number.  After doing so, you should get a message saying that a 4 digit code was texted to you.  Wait for the text message containing the 4 digit code and then enter it into the app.  Next you will be prompted to create a password for the Remind app.  After doing so, you should be set up!

One Act Play Public Preview

Hay Springs Public School would like to invite parents, public, and theater fans of all ages to the public preview of this year’s One Act Play performance of “Only Human”.  Everyone is encouraged to come to this first performance and then come to the last performance(date to be determined) to see how our thespians have improved their craft!  Please be aware that there is a non-violent death in the play so use your best judgement for younger viewers.  The first public preview will take place on Thursday, November 17 @ 6:30 PM.  Please note there are no admission fees for any of these performances so plan to come support our students and have an entertaining evening at the theater!
