The Hay Springs One Act team will be participating in the Panhandle Conference One Act competition on Friday, November 20th in Hemingford. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, only judges and coaches will only be allowed to watch the play. Unfortunately, because of copyright laws streaming will not be available. Hay Springs will be performing at 10:00 am. Leave from the school will be at 8:10 am.  The team will be returning after receiving their critique. The return time will be around noon.

Due to the increase in positive cases of COVID in our panhandle area and Sheridan County, I want to remind you that we are requiring the wearing of masks PreK – 12th Grade at Hay Springs School. Also remember to monitor your student’s temperature/health and if they are ill keep them home. We continue to encourage students to practice good hand washing and sanitization. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Hagge or Mr. Lechtenberg at the school number 308-638-4434 or my cell at 402-340-0849.

FFA Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremonies

Dear FFA Parents and Guardians,

It is with great pleasure I invite you to join us on Tuesday evening at the Hay Springs School Auditorium for our chapter Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremonies at 7:30 pm. Since we were not able to conduct any of our end of the year activities we will be awarding the Greenhand Degrees to twenty-five chapter members. We will also be recognizing those individual students who received district and state level awards during the 2019-20 school year. We will also be presenting Chapter Degrees to fourteen of our chapter members. We will also be recognizing the officer team that served our chapter last year, in our first year of reinstatement, as well as those individuals that have offered their support over the past year. Our final ceremonies for the evening will be the installation of the 2020-21 Chapter officers.

Due to the risk of COVID, we will be limiting our attendance to only the families of our FFA members. We will however be live streaming this event which hopefully will allow for other supporters of our program to observe these ceremonies.  The live stream will be available for viewing at the following address:

The time has come for the Hay Springs Schools to begin requiring face masks in our High School and Middle level at all times (elementary for right now is just strongly reccomended) when social distancing is not possible by all staff and students. This action is taken in an effort to keep our school open for face to face instruction and keep our students from being quarantined.

September 2020 Student of the Month

Kaleb Miller is an amazing young man. He has overcome many obstacles to be the successful person that he is. He is hardworking and diligent. He is also willing to sacrifice his personal time to help his brother be more successful. I feel that he deserves this recognition for being the great young man that he is!

Kaleb is a very considerate young man whom I have witnessed helping others simply because they need a hand. He does the right thing even when others are not looking.

Kaleb is a nice young man that is always willing to help out with any task that is needed.

Kaleb is a young man who is excited to help anybody with any issues they may have. I know that he’s helped other students with their vehicles, he’s always willing to help out with anything in the classroom, and he’s especially happy when he can help someone with a building or repairing project. One of my tall tables had an issue when we opened the box, and I thought I was going to have to send it back because the screws were stripped. Kaleb looked at it, told me he could move the screws to a different spot, and it would go together like it was supposed to. Not only did he make it usable, he also spray painted the area where some paint had come off so that it still looked like the brand new table that it was. He’s also wonderful to have in class because he’s always positive and probably the most polite student I know. This award is highly deserved!

In my seven years in Hay Springs I have worked with Kaleb the most. For seven years I have had him as a student for about six of those years. It is not too often you get to spend that much time with one student. I am glad that I got to have those six years as Kaleb’s teacher. In my career I cannot remember having such a nice and honorable student. He has battled many things in the years I have known him. How he stays so positive is beyond me. He strives to be better. His work ethic has helped propel him further than what some think he is capable of. I know he will use this to become a successful adult. Kaleb deserves this accolade. I am very proud of him!
