HSPS 2019-2020 Morning Preschool Class Year End Video

What an amazing first year of preschool together! I absolutely loved teaching your kids and can not wait to see them again in the fall for our second year together! I wish the end of our school year was different, there are so many ideas that we didn’t get to create and so many pictures I didn’t get to take. But, we did get in tons of playing and learning before we had to leave. I am so proud of all they accomplished both in school and at home. I hope you enjoy this video of our time together. Again, thank you parents! Have a wonderful summer and please let me know if you need anything. 🙂

PreK Happenings

Wow! What a crazy and interesting time we are living in, especially when it comes to school. Preschool students have been busy learning, playing, and growing while parents have been busy helping them at home. I have provided packets and materials to keep the students on track and we have been having weekly classroom Zoom meetings to talk to our classmates and keep in touch. During our Zoom meetings, we have had show and tell, listened to music together, read stories, and even had a scavenger hunt! Students also talk about what they have been doing at home and how they are staying busy with play. It makes me incredibly sad that we could not end our preschool year together, but I love that their families share what they are doing at home with me. I wanted to share some of those wonderful pictures with you. Some of the things they have been doing are helping on the farm, celebrating Easter, planting seeds and gardens, working on their school work, and learning through play! Also, due to the current health situation, our preschool open house and kindergarten round up have been moved online! Please watch our website for a video and information about the upcoming school year. — Ms. Sherlock

Horse School

On a beautiful November 19th day, Megan Reimann brought her two Morgan horses, Rusty and Harvey, and showed the preschool and first grade classes some of the tricks they know. Rusty demonstrated how he can fetch, play an instrument, and rope a “calf”. Harvey was too shy to dance very much but showed that he knows his colors almost as good as the children, choosing between blue and yellow balloons when asked.

Work Together Wednesday

Wednesday, the 18th, during Week of the Young Child was Work Together Wednesday! We have so many opportunities to work together in our classroom and work daily on being good friends. We also use partner work during small groups so we are sharing ideas and helping each other learn.

For our Work Together Wednesday activities, the morning preschool class worked together to create friendship rainbows. Each child was in charge of a color to create a class rainbow and a rainbow for each of their friends. We also created a block town using ABC town blocks. We had to decide where our houses would go and work together to create our community. We then added people and vehicles to our community.

The afternoon class also worked together to create a block community. They were very interested in where their houses were all located and some of them even made sure they had trucks and tractors just like at their real houses! This was great mapping and fit in great with a social studies theme about community. The afternoon class also worked together to clean up our playground and around the school. We decided to reschedule our community clean up day due to the wind so this worked great as a chance to work together as a class. This was another great social studies lesson about keeping our school and community clean and safe! The afternoon class had another chance to work together as they helped me create the poster for Week of the Young Child that is hanging in the lunchroom.
