PANCO Music Contest
Congratulations to the Hay Springs High School music department who placed FIRST at the PANCO music conference contest held in Morrill on Tuesday, March 26th.
Receiving individual awards were:
Outstanding Large Instrumental Ensemble – Concert Band
Outstanding Mixed Trio – Abigail Russell, Abigail Nelson, and Noah Kelly (The Senior Trio)
Outstanding Brass Quintet – Abigail Nelson, Julia Russell, Tailyn Stark, Noah Kelly, and Evan Smith
Outstanding Piano Solo – Reese Varvel
These students will have a concert on Tuesday, April 16th at 7:00 PM in the Hay Springs Auditorium and then perform again at the District Music Contest held in Alliance on Wednesday, April 17th.
State FFA Choir
High Plains Honor Band
On Monday and Tuesday, February 5th & 6th, Abigail Russell and Abby Nelson participated in the High Plains Honor Band held at Chadron State College. The honor band was directed by Frank Tracz the director of bands at Kansas state university. Students from Nebraska, South Dakota & Wyoming were in attendance. The band rehearsed for two day and put on a final concert held at 5pm in Memorial Hall on Tuesday evening.
Oregon Trail Honor Band
On Monday, January 8th, three Hay Springs music students attended the Oregon Trail Honor Band(Abigail Russell – flute, Abigail Nelson – trumpet, and Julia Russell – trumpet). The band was directed by Doane University’s director of bands, Andrew Feyes, and hosted by Bridgeport High school. The band rehearsed from 9:30-4:30 and held a concert at 5pm.
