We are asking all students, parents, and community citizens to complete a short survey. Thank you in advance for your participation. Use the link below or the QR code to access the survey.
Read Across America
Although Dr. Seuss’s birthday is March 2, the Hay Springs Elementary celebrated on Thursday. Joining them were members of National Honor Society. The high school students read Dr. Seuss books and lead activities related to the various titles.
The pre-school and kindergarten enjoyed One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and created their own fish bowls complete with handprint fish. After listening to Cat in the Hat Comes Back each student made their own “Cat in the Hat” hat.
The first and second grade heard Cat in the Hat, then told what they would do if Thing One and Thing Two came to their house. After reading about the fantastic animals in If I Ran the Zoo, the students created their own fantastic animals and put them in zoo cages.
Third, fourth, and fifth started out listening to To Think I Saw it All on Mulberry Street in which a boy imagines all kinds other things he saw on his way home from school. They then drew pictures of amazing things that might be seen on Baker Street filling up a mural on the wall outside Mrs. Strotheide’s room. They finished the day with Oh, the Places You Go. Each students created their own bucket list of places to go and things to see and things to do.
Checkout the fish bowls, zoo animals, and Baker Street mural in the library during Parent Teacher Conferences. Also check out our decorated doors and vote for your favorite one.
Decorated doors

The Hay Springs Video Production Class has made a Public Service Announcement video and entered it into the Nebraska “Click It, Don’t Risk It PSA Video Contest.” We are asking you to get on Twitter and YouTube to vote on our entry. This contest is a great opportunity for Nebraska high school students to create a :30 second public service announcement (PSA) to creatively express their views on seat belts and why they are important. Four winners will be chosen, one from each class (Class A, B,C,D) – each winner will receive $2,000, and their PSA will run at a local movie theater in or near its community! So, go to YouTube and “Like” our video, use the #CIDRI2015 and the #HSHSVideo hashtags on Twitter, and be sure to like and share this post on Facebook.
In September elementary HAL(High Ability Learners) students were challenged to discover or investigate one of their passions and then reflect and share their learning with others. This idea, adapted from the search-engine, Google, promotes the thinking that if you allow people to work on something that interests them, productivity will increase. Students needed to make their project “Product Focused”, meaning at the end of the semester, they had to have made something that was a completed product. Throughout the first semester, students diligently worked on their Passion Projects. The students all did an amazing job, and I am so proud of each of them. On January 20th, students presented their finished products to their families.
