The Burning Of The “H”

Last Thursday evening, HSPS students were able to enjoy a tradition that had been canceled in recent years due to dry conditions.  It was the burning of the “H” for homecoming!  In addition to that, a new event was added this year as well.  Students were able to take out any frustrations they might have had by taking swings at an old car.  The car smash was a fundraising event for the student council.

Parents Day

Wednesday is Parent Day!  Today, students were to dress like a parent and bring a non-living item to school.  They were then to treat it as their child.  As you can see from the pictures, we had some very creative “parents”!

Homecoming Pep Rally 2023

Following the Coronation on Tuesday afternoon, the Homecoming Pep Rally was held on the football field.  The event, which featured speeches by coaches and team members, class cheers, musical chairs, “minute to win it” games, and the ever popular Hawk Dance was well attended by students, staff, parents, and community members.  Here are several pictures of the festivities captured by HSPS senior Chase Brunsch.

October 2023 Board Meeting Notice

The Hay Springs Public Schools District #3 Board of Education, Sheridan County will hold their regular meeting at 6:30 pm on Monday, October 9th, 2023 in the Hay Springs Public School Cafeteria.  The agenda for said meeting is kept continually current and is available for public inspection at the Office of the Superintendent of Schools.

21st Century STEM Lab

21st Century Equipment brought their STEM Mobile Learning Lab to Hay Springs Public School on Monday!  The students learned about GPS(Global Positioning System) and how it is used to automatically guide farm equipment…or in this case, a lawn tractor!  GPS is also used to help gather yield information from crops so that chemicals, fertilizer, and water can be applied more effectively.  Students were able to drive the lawn tractor to map a path and then a different student was able to make the lawn tractor follow the exact same path without having to touch the steering wheel!  In addition to learning about GPS, students were also able to learn a bit about solar panels and how solar energy can be used to power electric fences and even stock wells.  The drone was a favorite of many students as well!  While they weren’t able to fly the drone themselves, they were able to put on a “VR Headset” and see what the drone saw when it was flying high in the air over their heads.  Drones can be used to do spot spraying in fields to eliminate weeds and insects.  Finally, students were able to play with a interactive topographical map inside the trailer.  A huge thank you to David from 21st Century for spending the day at Hay Springs Public School!

Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day

On October 2nd, National Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day encourages appreciation to the employees who keep our schools and workplaces across the nation running smoothly. Custodial workers operate behind the scenes. They are often under-appreciated for the hard work they do day after day, too. These are the personnel keeping schools, hospitals, office buildings, museums, churches, and other buildings clean and well maintained.  Thank you Ricky, Nate, and Malinda!

Apply2College Day

On Wednesday, Sep. 27th, the seniors at Hay Springs High School applied to college! Mrs. Pinnt and Connagher Stumpff, a representative from Western Nebraska Community College, assisted students in filling out applications to the schools of their choice, which included 4-year colleges, community colleges, and trade schools. Although some students may decide that college isn’t the right path for them, applying to at least one school allows students to see what’s out there and what kind of offers are available.

Once students have applied to a school, they will receive communication from the college, most likely as an email, letting them know whether they have been accepted, and whether they need to submit any further information. It’s important to pay attention to due dates!

Wishing our seniors the best of luck as they plan for their futures!
