On Tuesday, October 28 the 6th-12th graders were trained in QPR for Suicide Prevention. QPR which is: Question. Persuade. Refer.

We learned that asking if someone is having thoughts, feelings, or plans of suicide will not cause them to be suicidal.
There are direct and indirect verbal clues that someone is considering suicide.

Direct:
I’ve decided to kill myself.
I wish I were dead.
I’m going to end it all.
If (such and such) happens, I’ll kill myself.

Indirect:
I’m tired of life.
What’s the point of going on?
My family would be better off without me.
I just want out.
Soon I won’t be around.

Listen to what people are saying is very important. Talking about stuff can save lives.

Don’t be afraid to call 988.
988 is the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline where you can talk to a trained person. Texting 741741 will allow you to text someone.
988lifeline.org is a way to chat with someone.

K-1 Halloween

Kindergarten and First Grade students enjoyed a couple of Halloween experiments. They conducted an experiment with candy corn in different liquids and found that hot water dissolved candy corn faster than cold water, vinegar, and pop. They then read the story Pumpkin Jack and prepared their Pumpkin Jack pumpkins.

PANCO Band Clinic

Hay Springs hosted the PANCO band clinic on Wednesday, October 29th in the Lister-Sage gymnasium. The seven PANCO schools participating were Cody-Kilgore, Crawford, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Hyannis, Morrill, and Sioux County. The range of participating students was from 7th grade-12th grade. Students rehearsed from 8:30am-2:30pm with occasional breaks and put on a concert at 3pm.

Girls On The Run 5K

On Sunday, October 26th, the Hay Springs Girls on the Run team participated in the Panhandle 5K fun run. This event was held in Chadron with all of the teams from the Northern Panhandle area. The girls enjoyed celebrating the end of a great season! 13 girls along with 3 coaches participated in the 8 week program this year. Thank you to all of our Run Buddies, families, and volunteers for your support this season!
