October is AAC Awareness Month!
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. AAC includes tools and strategies that help people communicate when speaking is difficult or not their primary way of communicating. For Ava specifically, this looks like an IPad but it is actually her device that she uses to communicate with all of us.
This month, we want to remind everyone that everyone deserves a voice and a way to communicate. If you see someone using an AAC device, give them time to communicate, listen to what they have to say, and treat their communication just like you would anyone else’s.
Remember: Communication is more than talking, and every voice matters!
Happy AAC Awareness Month!
