Cross Country Season Preview

Cross country is open to boys and girls grades 6th-12th. This fall will be an exciting new year for Hay Springs XC.  We will have small numbers and very young runners that should gain lots of experience this year.

Daniel Hunzeker will be running his first high school meet this year as a freshmen.  Daniel ran in junior high, but now will go against the big dogs running the 5k at high school meets.  Brittany Ferguson, our only returning high school runner, will step up and be our team leader.

We will be selling XC t-shirts as soon as school starts so please contact a member of the team or Coach Mandelko.  Our schedule is also available through the calendar on this site. Please support your XC team…we appreciate it! Coach Mandelko

Concussion Testing

To be in compliance with a new Nebraska State law on concussion awareness in high school athletics Hay Springs Schools will be testing ALL student athletes grades 6-12.

This MUST be done before competition or practice, again this is for all sports not just contact sports.  ALL ATHLETES, ALL SPORTS!

Testing will be done:

Monday, August 6th

1:00 p.m.

at Hay Springs High School

The tests, both a cognitive and a spacial test, will be conducted by the physical therapy department for Box Butte General Hospital.

This test will provide a baseline that athletes must meet before returning to play following a concussion.

It will be difficult to schedule a test after this date and may be expensive.  Plan on attending om Monday, August 6th.

Don’t Stop Now

Consistency! This year’s Cross Country team has done extremely well and almost all of them improved at every meet, in both high school and junior high. The three high school runners worked their hardest to make it to the Best of the West meet on Saturday, October 8. After the Best of the West competition is the district meet. Districts will be on Thursday, October 1. After districts is the state competition. State will be Friday, October, 21.

Mrs. Mandelko said, “Jerilyn is very hopeful and eager to place in the top fifteen at districts.”
